Base64 Encoder and Decoder
Convert text or files to and from Base64 for HTTP headers, data: URLs, email payloads or config values. Text is handled as UTF-8, so accented letters, Korean, Japanese or Chinese text and emoji decode back exactly.
Input and files stay in your browser and are not uploaded.
Your files and text are processed only in this browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server.
How to use
- Choose the text or file mode.
- Pick encode or decode and enter your input.
- Turn on URL-safe output or data: URL output if you need them.
- Copy the result or download it as a file.
Features and limits
- URL-safe mode uses - and _ instead of + and / and omits = padding.
- Decoding accepts both alphabets, missing padding, line breaks and a data: URL prefix.
- You get a clear error if the input isn't valid Base64 or the decoded bytes aren't UTF-8 text.
- Files up to 10 MB can be encoded, optionally as a data: URL. Base64 can also be decoded back into a downloadable file.
FAQ
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is just an encoding and anyone can decode it, so it doesn't protect passwords or secrets.
Why does my decoded Base64 look like gibberish?
The original data was probably binary (an image, a PDF) or text in a non-UTF-8 encoding. For binary data, use file mode to decode and download it.
What is URL-safe Base64?
A variant that replaces + and / with - and _ and usually drops the = padding, so the result can sit in URLs and filenames. JWTs use it.
How do I turn an image into a data URL?
Open the image in file mode and enable data: URL output. The result can be pasted into an HTML src attribute or a CSS url().
